The San Juan River, located in northwest New Mexico near Navajo Dam, is renowned for its world-class fishing. Flowing westward from the base of Navajo Lake dam towards Utah, the river’s year-round cold temperature creates a perfect environment for trout, making it an exceptional fishery. The first four miles of the San Juan are designated as "Quality Waters" by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDGF), where only artificial flies with single, barbless hooks are permitted, and all trout must be carefully released. Beyond this section, traditional fishing methods and bait are allowed, with catches regulated by NMDGF.
The river winds through stunning western landscapes, featuring towering rock mesas and expansive desert vistas, offering scenic views and regular wildlife sightings. The float trip on this section of the San Juan is calm, with no major rapids, making it perfect for a relaxing fishing experience.
GO Unlimited provides fishing opportunities for individuals with disabilities. We offer both half-day and full-day drift boat trips, starting from the Quality Waters section. Our accessible launch includes transfer benches for easy access to and from the boat. All anglers are equipped with flotation devices and provided with fishing rods, tackle, and supplies.
Accommodations are available in the Navajo Dam Community along the San Juan River, New Mexico. We offer stays in a lodge with two wheelchair-accessible rooms or a wheelchair-friendly VRBO house with direct river access.

For those seeking adventure, GO Unlimited offers unique backcountry fishing experiences for anglers looking to push their limits. These trips take place in remote areas of northern New Mexico, often near small streams, rivers, and lakes far from roads and modern amenities. The locations rotate based on seasonal factors, fishing conditions, and environmental conditions.
We explore these pristine spots using adaptive 3-wheeled mountain cycles equipped with electric assist, allowing anglers to reach otherwise inaccessible areas. Most trips involve fly-fishing in designated Quality Waters as defined by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, though some small lakes are accessible by vehicle, allowing us to use drift boats for fishing.
These backcountry adventures offer the chance to experience the unspoiled beauty of New Mexico’s wilderness while testing your angling skills in challenging and rewarding environments.
Lodging options depend on the location of the backcountry fishing trip. Contact us to learn more about where we are currently fishing and to book your adventure.
