Today we embarked on an exciting new collaboration with the Adelante Development Center at Isleta Lakes. GO Unlimited organized a fishing and adaptive equipment demonstration, catering to kids and adults who use wheelchairs. The weather worked in our favor. Despite the rain the night before and a light drizzle in the morning, by the time our event began at 9 a.m., the skies cleared just in time, leaving us with pleasant temperatures and a picturesque overcast sky.

Adelante’s new program, Destination Accessibility, was front and center during the event, with GO Unlimited playing a key role in introducing participants to adaptive outdoor equipment. One of the highlights was the FreeWheel attachment—a fantastic tool for enhancing mobility. This device seamlessly attaches to the footplate of a manual wheelchair, empowering users to navigate challenging terrains like grass and sand, making outdoor activities significantly more accessible.

We also brought adaptive off-road handcycles for people to try, which were a big hit! Participants were thrilled to take on the rugged paths and explore areas previously inaccessible. Alongside the adaptive demonstrations, we had the opportunity to go fishing, thanks to the amazing support of the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. Their team not only helped set up the fishing rods, but also provided tips and guidance for new anglers.

To top off the day, we hosted a delicious barbecue lunch, which gave everyone time to relax, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and share their experiences. We’re excited to host more of these group trips in the future, as they offer fun and informative opportunities for individuals with disabilities to explore outdoor adventures beyond paved paths.
